Overview

The project surveyed existing Mechanical & Electrical assets and environmental conditions across the Swindon Hospital estate. Work was delivered as part of a five-person survey team, with responsibility for capturing and verifying M&E assets, comparing findings against the existing asset register, and carrying out environmental tests within rooms and spaces.

Multiple stakeholders — including the Hospital Trust, Facilities Management teams and third-party consultants and contractors — required information to be captured consistently for the wider project team. Approximately 3,500 rooms were covered within a five-month programme.

Personal role

Core surveyor within a five-person team: M&E asset capture and verification, asset-register discrepancy identification, full suite of environmental testing, and digital recording through GoReport for multi-stakeholder use.

Scope of work
  • Inspect, identify and record M&E assets throughout surveyed areas
  • Compare site findings against the existing asset register
  • Identify discrepancies between recorded and observed assets
  • Record room temperature and humidity levels
  • Measure lighting levels (lux readings)
  • Carry out acoustic measurements
  • Measure ventilation airflow using a bolometer
  • Capture and manage survey information digitally through GoReport
Challenges
  • Approximately 3,500 rooms in five months with a five-person team required a consistent, efficient capture method to stay accurate and on programme.
  • Work took place in a live hospital environment, demanding sensitive working around occupied areas and day-to-day clinical operations.
  • Multiple stakeholders needed a consistent data format usable by the Trust, FM teams and appointed third parties.
  • The breadth of scope combined asset verification with temperature, humidity, lighting, acoustic and airflow measurements.
Outcome
  • A comprehensive survey of approximately 3,500 rooms was delivered, covering M&E assets and environmental conditions across the estate.
  • Digital capture through GoReport supported comparison against the existing asset register and helped identify discrepancies.
  • Environmental testing added temperature, humidity, lighting, acoustic and ventilation airflow data for a wider understanding of space conditions.
  • The commission provided deep experience in healthcare M&E verification, environmental testing, digital data capture and stakeholder coordination in a live clinical estate.
